The Louise Laffin Third Annual Fiction Competition Guidelines
The Louise Laffin Competition is an annual competition for the best original short piece of science or horror fiction.
The competition was established to promote the acceptance of science and horror fiction as honorable types of literature which give pleasure and participate in the intellectual discourse of mankind.
The competition honors the memory of Louise Laffin, whose appreciation of things—in life and in literature—was not determined by preconceived ideas, but rather by their intrinsic value.
The prize is $300 and the publication of the entry in New Genre.
Competition Rules
Each entry must be an original unpublished work.
Submission of an entry constitutes agreement to have the work, if chosen as the winner, to be published in the periodical, New Genre.
The editors of New Genre magazine will evaluate all entries and determine the winners. The editors’ decisions will be final.
In the case of a tie, the award may be divided into two equal awards of $150.00.
Each entry must be submitted in typewritten form—either manual or computer.
If entrants wish to have their work returned, they must submit an additional stamped, self-addressed envelope of large enough size to hold their submission. Any entry not accompanied by such an envelope will be retained at the offices of New Genre for sixty days after the announcement of the winners, and then it will no longer be available for return.
The reading period for entries is congruous with the reading period for New Genre #5. Thus, any submissions considered for New Genre #5 will be considered as Louise Laffin Competition entrants.
The winner will be announced when New Genre #5 is published at the offices of New Genre and on the website (www.new-genre.com). The winner will also be contacted by New Genre.
Each entry must conform to the style, length and other requirements for publication in the periodical, New Genre. Submission guidelines may be obtained by writing directly to New Genre, PO Box 270092, West Hartford, CT 06127 or by visiting the website.
No employee of the periodical, New Genre, will be eligible to win.
